Charter for "Saving the Digital World"



Objectives

  • Serve as an ad-hoc alliance of interested parties to promote  future access to usable, understandable, and trustworthy  digital information for as far into the future as necessary.   This alliance encompasses individuals and organizations concerned about achieving these goals, especially not-for-profit organizations, academic institutions and government agencies.
  • Sponsor and support initiatives that help assure appropriate access and preservation of digital information. 
  • Research, develop, combine, link and distribute appropriate digital preservation guidance and best practices  to help individuals, governments, corporations, associations and institutions to establish and support  sustained access usable, understandable, and trustworthy digital information.
  • Encourage industry-wide development of standards, best practices and knowledge necessary and sufficient to attain acceptable levels of persistent usability of digital information.
  • Expand and refine savingthedigitalworld.com as reliable source of information on all issues impacting long-term preservation of digital information.
